Simple Harmonic Motion(SHM) occurs for every object that repeats its motion over a unit of time.

A pendulum is a simple harmonic oscillator. All it does is swing back and forth. A mass on a spring that bounces up and down is a simple harmonic oscillator. Those stupid "bobble-head" dolls are simple harmonic oscillators. The moon, the Earth, and all other planets are S.H. oscillators.

And so are waves. There are two kinds of waves: Longitudinal and Transverse. You will need to be able to tell them apart.
